Was Big Magic right all along?

You know that saying about buses? That's how my blog posts are right now. You don't see one for ages and then they all come at once. That's how my brain has been working lately. Sometimes I could just write post after post after post and I stop myself before I burn out. Other times I want to write and the time ticks on and on and nothing happens. Sometimes something else spurs me on such as seeing a blog post from another creator I haven't seen post in a while, or something particularly interesting like a topic discussed over coffee. Often what spurs me on is procrastination. Oh here we go again. She's using the P word again. Yes I am unfortunately! But we aren't going to dwell on it today. Instead we're going to talk about Big Magic. Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear is a book by Elizabeth Gilbert which I read at the very beginning of last year. The first of the 4 only books I read in 2017 to be exact. It has some interesting concepts on how idea...

National Poetry Day

University has been stressful to say the least but today I had a half day and found out that it was National Poetry Day. Today was also one of the few days I've had lately that a few sparks of inspiration have been igniting so here is my contribution. Enjoy!

Dream days

Today I felt very inspired to write. I don't know why but ideas kept creeping up on me throughout the day. As I haven't done so in a while I thought I would share one of the poems I wrote today. Enjoy!

Head - A short story

I haven't posted on here in a while and the reason is my head. Now I know that doesn't really make any sense but I'll explain. Uni has been getting to me lately and has been incredibly intense leaving me with no room inside of me for creativity or at least that is how it feels. Tonight I finally managed to scramble a few thoughts together and so I wrote 'Head'. Don't worry though because writing this has cleared some of the fluff out of my brain and I can finally get round to writing some reviews I've been meaning to for a few weeks! Hope you have all been well, Sophie

The Save File

Hello again! This post is quite a personal one. I have to admit I am a little apprehensive about posting it but it's time to do so.I get very attached to people. I also get very nostalgic. My brain likes to play a wonderful game with me called 'Don't sleep, worry about all these things instead!'. I get very sad when I think about people who are no longer actively in my life and I find myself wondering. Do I miss them, the person they used to be or the good times we had? This short story is not a story at all. It's something real that happened to me one day when I couldn't sleep and all I wanted to do was play an old game. Hope you enjoy Sophie

Ideas can't be forced

For the past few days my brain has bombarded me with ideas the moment I walk outside. Today expecting a similar thing and feeling itchy to write I sat with my phone ready in my hand and... stared at my phone screen blankly. The first line was something that came to mind during my frustration. Then, slowly but surely the words soon followed. We can't force ideas but sometimes we can give them a little coercion. Have a great day as always Sophie

Darcy

Now I am not a professional writer, nor am I even particularly good. However I do enjoy writing and sometimes inspiration does hit and I scribble out a few lines of nonsense. Now my friend Jenn is a writer! She has her own blog  here One of the main differences between me and Jenn (besides her talent) is planning. She has pages upon pages of character notes, plotlines and main events. I, on the other hand, generally have an introduction, an ending line or paragraph and some vague skeletally framed characters. Starting from now I am determined to flesh out my ideas more and actually finish a story! (I have been saying the same thing about my art for years but that's another story) According to my phone I wrote the following short story in 2013 which is when I first got my phone. I can remember writing this laying on my bed one December night whilst QI or something played in the background. This is an example of me just splurging out an idea but I hope you enjoy it. See you soon ...
