National Poetry Day

University has been stressful to say the least but today I had a half day and found out that it was National Poetry Day. Today was also one of the few days I've had lately that a few sparks of inspiration have been igniting so here is my contribution.

Enjoy!

Poems and I - By Sophie Brown (6th October)

I used to think of poems as a quick read
That was until I realised
That poems could speak to me more
Than a 300 page book ever could
Poems are overlooked sparkling little treasures
That prod my brain and make me shout
"Oh God what is life all about?"
Because you see
Although I love those novels dearly
That struck my heart with hurt
And changed me for the better
The change was slow and steady
It took several hours, several days
Weeks, months, sometimes years
But poems are head rushes
Like when you stand from a chair too quick
They catch your breath in your lungs
And then they stick
Poems aren't just pretty words
Their life lessons with song
Poems are overlooked too often
And I really think that is wrong
