My relationship with my hair

Image
For years I was the girl with long hair. It was long and somewhat curly and wavy and downright unruly. I had a crown of curls at the front of my head that my mum affectionately called my lion's mane. Let's flashback briefly to 2008 ish. I cut my hair off. I didn't realise donation was a thing so that didn't happen and I effectively went for Victoria Beckham's haircut of the time. It was a long bob that was a little bit shorter at the back than the front. If I didn't straighten it I didn't like it. So for quite a few mornings I would half heartedly straighten the back (far too much effort) and that was it. From there I let it grow out again and like in my childhood sometimes went YEARS without getting it cut. Now we are in 2013 and I am heading off to university and it's all very exciting. I learn about The Little Princess Trust which is a place you can donate your hair to that make wigs for girls and boys. For sometime I had been toying with the...

The fear of the craft

I love creative things. I love painting and sewing and knitting and writing and all those wonderful things. When was the last time I did any of those things? Honestly. I can't remember. My reason for not doing those things is often one or a combination of a few reasons. In reality they are just excuses to an extent. Let's look at the big one though - fear of the result/messing up. If you don't practice you never improve - simple. However, that hasn't stopped me from not practicing  because I don't like how something has turned out. I'll fawn over other artists and writers and go 'wow - I'd love to be as talented as you one day' fully aware that they have worked blooming hard to get there. So off I go to scribble something down aaaaannnddd.... instantly hate it. Now this isn't a new concept as lots of people say this. The dividing factor is the next step though. Create or hate. Create and you can improve to a point where you will event...

Happy 1st Birthday to me!

On the 26th of August 2015 I went on an adventure and decided in a Caffe Nero, whilst shovelling cheesecake in my mouth, that now was the time to start a blog. A year on and I am still writing! I've been putting off posting for a number of reasons but then my blog's birthday came and went and I knew I needed to say something. ***Happy Birthday to yetanothersophie! ***   I am still only a little blog sailing about in the great wide ocean of the internet just letting the current guide me. But, I would just like to thank everyone who has read or supported my blog over the past year. Slowly but surely my writing confidence has been increasing and although I am no Dickens or Austen by any stretch of the imagination, and probably never will be, this blog has given me the motivation to keep writing and to keep developing ideas instead of letting them rot in my brain space. A year is a long time and for me to have committed to a project for such a long amount of time is a ...

Too little time or ill placed time?

Hello again everyone it has been a while. Life has been busy to say the least. Recently my mum got two new puppies and I have become the official doggy babysitter, not that I mind of course! Today however I am not discussing the dogs or how they came to be at our house. Instead I am talking about something that has been troubling me for a long while now. Something that has become even more apparent since my last post. Often I find myself saying "I wish I could do more of X but I just don't have time!" but this has led me to think, do I really not have any time? I am a university student and I find myself, especially at exam times, saying 'I can't read a book I need to revise' but do I revise? No. I sit worrying about how I don't have time to do other things cause I need to revise. My biggest problem is daydreaming but that's another blogpost. In short I don't waste away the hours watching tv or going shopping or learning the oboe. Instead I s...
