This is Halloween! This is Halloween! (just a bit late)
I love Halloween.
Now I'm from the UK and Halloween is still not as big as in other countries (I'm looking at you US) but it has been gaining popularity these past few years. Supermarkets have started stocking more treats, costumes and decorations and this is very bad for my bank account. I fell in love with Mr Kipling's Witches Hats (aka orange French fancies dyed green) and Cadbury's Creepy Cinder toffee cake bars (cinder toffee is amazing) this year.
Now I must confess I hardly ever do anything for Halloween. In fact, I only went trick or treating a handful of times in my childhood so I am not exactly sure where this love came from. Despite my appearance I do love creepy things and there will always be a special place in my heart for Gothic novels and vampires. But hey looks can be deceiving! A few years ago someone said to me 'How can you like that band?! You are wearing knitwear and jeans with dogs on them!' Apparently you can't appreciate heavy metal if you wear knitwear, who knew! For the record those jeans have dogs ON BICYCLES which make them a thousand times better.
Back to Halloween.
I have been to my uni's Halloween party every year for the past few years and it has been amazing. I love dressing up but unfortunately fear clumsy drunk people too much to ever make a costume overly elaborate.
First year I was Frankenstein's bride.
Second year I was a devil
This year I was a witch.
Now my costume was lacking this year so I did some fun make up to make me look like a cartoony sad witch but it unfortunately didn't show up too well on any pictures.
Although I enjoyed myself at the parties I think what I loved most was Halloween night with my flatmate. Since moving out of halls me and my flat mate have carved pumpkins, made pumpkin pie and soup, listened to Halloween music and watched some seasonal films. Whilst we are on the topic of seasonal films is 'The nightmare before christmas' a Halloween or Christmas movie? I can never decide. Anyway, I had never carved pumpkins before and I love it! I don't love how long it takes to scoop them out or how fast they die but I do love it.
My first pumpkin I went with a standard pumpkin face. This year I decided to try and do something a little more advanced - a witches silhouette! Let me know how good or bad you think I did below.

This year's pumpkin (2015). My flat mates is the left and mine is the right. I love her bat! (It also looks a little bit like Toothless from HTTYD) |
So that was my Halloween. How do you guys feel about Halloween? Love it or loathe it the holiday isn't going away any time soon.
Have a ghoulishly great day
Sophie
